May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and it is a time to be cognizant of your own mental health and others’. Whether observing this month looks like seeking therapy for yourself or supporting your friends and loved ones who face mental health challenges, giving mental health your attention can only bring benefits. If you are in need of help, we encourage you to book now or call us at (706) 869-7373.

There are a few reasons May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, but it mainly has to do with the fact that it coincides with the establishment of Mental Health America. In 1909, Clifford W. Beers, who struggled himself with mental illness, founded Mental Health America (MHA) to improve conditions for others who were dealing with mental health struggles. Mental Health Awareness Month wasn’t established until 1949, but since the beginning, MHA has expanded its efforts, and today Mental Health Awareness Month is a strong initiative that has helped to reduce stigma about mental health, build solidarity, educate the public, and more. Green is the official color for Mental Health Awareness Month, symbolizing hope, renewal, and strength. We are encouraging everyone to wear green. However, wearing green isn’t just a statement—it’s a call to action
With spring being a time of renewal, the school year ending, and resources being shared widely in May, now is a perfect time to start therapy if you are facing challenges with your mental health or you merely want to take care of yourself. Then again, any time is a good time to seek help and be aware.
