After experiencing a traumatic event, some people develop post-traumatic stress disorder, more commonly referred to as PTSD. Although this condition used to be primarily associated with military veterans who saw combat, PTSD can develop after a wide range of situations, such as assaults, car accidents, and medical emergencies. Millions of people experience symptoms of PTSD each year, and if you’re struggling to cope after a traumatic event, we at Georgia Family Crisis Solutions encourage you to book now or call us at (706) 869-7373.

June is PTSD awareness month, and now is a great time to learn more about the causes behind this condition, how to treat it, and how you can support people in your life who are dealing with PTSD. June was officially recognized as PTSD awareness month in 2014, with June 27 being recognized as PTSD awareness day in remembrance of Staff Sergeant Joe Biel. Biel was a member of the National Guard and developed PTSD after serving two tours in Iraq. Biel died of suicide in 2007, and since then, people have worked hard to raise awareness of PTSD and make resources more accessible to military members and civilians alike.
This month, our team wants to let you know that you’re not weak for struggling with PTSD, that you’re not alone in facing this condition, and that there are ways to cope and regain control in your life. Here are a few ways to cope:
- Talk to a Therapist
- Practice Grounding Techniques
- Establish a Consistent Routine
- Avoid Avoidance (It’s natural to avoid reminders of trauma, but long-term avoidance can worsen symptoms.)
- Build Supportive Connections
Our counselors are here to listen, offer helpful strategies and tools to help you manage symptoms, and connect you with other resources. If you’d like to learn more or set up an appointment, please don’t hesitate to book now or call us at (706) 869-7373.
